What Is LINX®?

A Small Device.
A Life-Changing Solution.

The LINX® Reflux Management System is a minimally invasive, advanced solution for acid reflux and GERD. It consists of a small, flexible ring of magnetic titanium beads, placed laparoscopically around the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). The device supports the body’s natural barrier, preventing stomach acid from flowing back while still allowing normal swallowing. Unlike traditional surgery, LINX® preserves your natural anatomy and can be removed if needed.

How LINX® Works

Three Moments, One Device

  1. At Rest

The magnetic beads gently keep the LES closed, preventing acid reflux.

  2. Swallowing

The beads separate naturally when swallowing, allowing food and liquids to pass comfortably.

  3. After Eating

The beads close again immediately, maintaining the natural barrier and reducing reflux even when lying down.

Patient Selection

Is LINX® the Right Procedure for You?

Traditional fundoplication wraps the stomach permanently, while LINX® uses a minimally invasive, augmentation-based approach that preserves natural anatomy. LINX® provides effective reflux control without the limitations of traditional surgery, making it a modern alternative for patients seeking faster recovery and long-term relief.

Chronic GERD symptoms for ≥6 months
Inadequate symptom control on PPI medication
Confirmed abnormal acid exposure on pH test
Hiatal hernia ≤3 cm reducible
Seeking permanent alternative to daily medication
Normal or near-normal esophageal motility

Why Choose LINX®?

LINX® vs. Traditional Reflux Surgery

Traditional fundoplication permanently wraps the stomach. LINX® augments rather than alters, a fundamentally different approach.

Preserves Natural Anatomy

No wrapping or cutting of the stomach. Anatomy stays intact, reducing bloating and dysphagia side effects.

Belch & Vomit Preserved

Unlike fundoplication, LINX® can be overcome by natural pressure, preserving normal belching and vomiting.

Minimally Invasive

Performed laparoscopically through 3–5 small ports. No large incisions, less pain, faster healing.

Faster Recovery

Most patients discharge within 24 hours and return to normal activities within days, not weeks.

MRI Compatible

LINX® is MRI conditional — safe for standard 1.5 Tesla scans, so future imaging is not compromised.

Fully Reversible

If needs change, LINX® can be removed laparoscopically. No permanent anatomical changes — no bridges burned.

Recovery

What to Expect After Your LINX® Procedure

LINX® offers one of the fastest recovery times of any reflux surgery. Most patients are surprised at how quickly they feel back to normal.

  1. Day 1

    Back Home

The procedure takes under 1 hour under general anesthesia. Most patients are discharged the same day or the following morning.

  2. Days 2

    Full Diet

Patients can eat normally as the device fully integrates. Most experience complete relief from reflux symptoms and heartburn.

  3. Week 1

    Back to Normal

Light exercise resumes after 1 week. Most daily activities, including work, can be resumed within days.

Important: Every recovery is different. Dr. Ahmed Kamal provides detailed post-operative instructions and follow-up appointments to monitor your progress.

LINX® FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

The laparoscopic procedure typically takes 45 minutes to 1 hour under general anaesthesia. You will be in the operating room for approximately 2 hours in total including preparation and recovery from anaesthesia.

No. Once healing is complete (usually 6–8 weeks), patients are not aware of the device. It is designed to flex naturally with every swallow and breath, functioning as a seamless part of your anatomy.

Yes. LINX® is MRI conditional for scanners up to 1.5 Tesla. Before any MRI scan, always inform the radiologist or technician that you have a LINX® device. Full MRI guidelines are provided at discharge.

Yes. LINX® can be removed laparoscopically if clinically necessary. Because the device augments rather than alters your anatomy, removal is possible without the complexity involved in reversing a fundoplication.

You can drink fluids on the day of surgery. A soft food diet is recommended for the first 1–2 weeks to allow swelling to subside and the device to settle. A graduated return to normal foods typically takes 4–6 weeks.

Clinical studies show that over 95% of LINX® patients are able to stop daily PPI medication and report significant improvement in quality of life. Long-term data demonstrates sustained effectiveness beyond 10 years.
